Our Story

Scalawags was founded in 2007 by Jack and Rose, two Soft Coated Wheaten Terriers. They lived in Connecticut their whole lives and decided they wanted to live by the ocean so they packed their bags and moved to Kennebunkport, Maine.

Once there, Jack wanted to open a restaurant (he was a big foodie) and Rose wanted to sell seashells at the seashore. They compromised and decided to open a shop which sells all of their favorite things, toys and treats! Lots and lots of treats! The two petrepreneurs would sell other things too but only items which made them happy. They decided to call their pet boutique "Scalawags" because that is what their mom always called them.

Jack and Rose eventually retired and their mom, along with lots of helpers, continue to fulfill their dream of creating a happy place where pets and their families can always find a warm welcome and lots of fun goodies to make them smile.
